Love Smiths products are handcrafted and shipped from France. This guide explains how VAT, customs duties, import taxes, and delivery charges are handled for orders sent within the European Union and to international destinations.
Delivered Duty Paid destinations:
Until further notice, Love Smiths covers applicable customs duties, import tariffs, import taxes assessed during customs clearance, and routine customs-clearance charges included in our DDP shipping arrangement for orders delivered to the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Norway, and Switzerland.
Customers in these destinations should not normally be asked to pay an additional customs charge upon delivery for amounts covered by our DDP arrangement. Domestic sales taxes, state taxes, provincial taxes, local taxes, or other charges that are not included in the carrier’s DDP customs assessment may still apply. If a carrier requests payment, please contact Love Smiths before paying.

What Delivered Duty Paid Means
Delivered Duty Paid, commonly called DDP, means that Love Smiths arranges the shipment and pays the applicable import charges assessed during customs clearance and included in the appointed carrier’s DDP arrangement.
For the destinations listed above, Love Smiths currently covers:
- Applicable customs duties and import tariffs
- Import VAT, GST, consumption tax, or an equivalent import tax when assessed at import and included in the carrier’s DDP billing
- Routine customs-clearance or brokerage charges billed through the appointed carrier
- Other standard import charges included in the DDP assessment and required to release the parcel for delivery
The parcel must still pass through customs, and the carrier or customs authority may request identification, confirmation of the order value, or other information from the recipient. Providing requested information does not mean that the recipient must pay the import charges covered by our DDP arrangement.
DDP does not automatically cover every domestic tax. State taxes, provincial taxes, local taxes, domestic sales taxes, or other charges that are not included in the carrier’s customs assessment may still apply. Any tax collected directly by Love Smiths will be shown at checkout.
Charges Not Included in the DDP Policy
DDP covers the normal import charges required to clear an eligible order. It does not cover avoidable costs or penalties caused by circumstances outside the normal customs process, including:
- Storage charges caused by a recipient failing to respond to the carrier or customs authority
- Address-correction, redelivery, or return-to-sender charges caused by incorrect or incomplete delivery information
- Charges caused by refusing the parcel or failing to provide requested customs documentation
- Penalties resulting from information supplied incorrectly by the recipient
- Domestic sales taxes, state taxes, provincial taxes, local taxes, or other non-import taxes not included in the carrier’s DDP customs assessment
- Optional services requested directly from the carrier
Any domestic sales tax, state tax, provincial tax, local tax, or similar charge collected separately by Love Smiths will be displayed before payment. These charges are separate from the import duties and taxes covered through the carrier’s DDP customs process.
Production & Shipping Origin
Love Smiths silicone products are handcrafted in Grenoble, France. Orders are prepared and dispatched directly from France to the delivery address entered at checkout.
Goods Declaration & HS Classification
International shipments include the customs declaration and commercial documentation required by the selected carrier and destination country.
Products are declared using the customs description and HS classification assigned to the shipment. Where the store’s fallback classification is used, the shipment may be described as a manufactured decorative article under HS Code 95059000.
Customs authorities retain the right to inspect a parcel, request documents, reassess its value, or apply a different classification under local rules.
If a Carrier Requests Payment
If your delivery address is in a DDP-covered destination and a carrier asks you to pay an import charge that you believe should be covered by our DDP arrangement, please contact Love Smiths before making the payment.
Send us the carrier’s message, invoice, payment link, or customs notice together with your Love Smiths order number. We will review whether the charge is included in the carrier’s DDP customs assessment and work with the carrier where appropriate.
Do not ignore requests for identity verification, address confirmation, or customs documentation. These requests may still be necessary for clearance even when Love Smiths is paying the import charges.
Country Information
The following summary explains how Love Smiths currently handles import charges for its most common destinations.
European Union
Love Smiths orders are dispatched from France. VAT is included in the displayed price, and ordinary deliveries to another EU member state do not require import customs clearance or an import-duty payment from the customer.
United States
Delivered Duty Paid: Until further notice, Love Smiths covers applicable customs duties, import tariffs, import taxes assessed during customs clearance, and routine customs-clearance charges included in our DDP arrangement for eligible US orders.
State or local sales tax is separate from customs duties and is not automatically included in DDP. Any such tax collected by Love Smiths will be shown at checkout.
Canada
Delivered Duty Paid: Love Smiths currently covers applicable customs duties, import tariffs, import taxes assessed during customs clearance, and routine customs-clearance charges included in our DDP arrangement for eligible orders delivered to Canada.
Customers should not normally receive a separate customs-payment request for amounts covered by the DDP arrangement. Provincial, local, or other domestic taxes not included in the carrier’s customs assessment may still apply.
United Kingdom
Delivered Duty Paid: Love Smiths currently covers applicable customs duties, import taxes assessed during customs clearance, and routine customs-clearance charges included in our DDP arrangement for eligible orders delivered to the United Kingdom.
This policy applies to covered deliveries to England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Domestic taxes or charges not included in the carrier’s DDP customs assessment may still apply.
Australia
Delivered Duty Paid: Love Smiths currently covers applicable customs duties, import taxes assessed during customs clearance, import-processing charges, and routine customs-clearance fees included in our DDP arrangement for eligible orders delivered to Australia.
Customers should not normally be asked to pay a separate import charge for amounts covered by the DDP arrangement. Domestic taxes or charges outside the carrier’s customs assessment may still apply.
Japan
Delivered Duty Paid: Love Smiths currently covers applicable customs duties, import taxes assessed during customs clearance, and routine customs-clearance charges included in our DDP arrangement for eligible orders delivered to Japan.
Customers should not normally receive a separate customs or import-tax bill for amounts covered by the DDP arrangement. Domestic taxes or charges outside the customs assessment may still apply.
Norway
Delivered Duty Paid: Love Smiths currently covers applicable customs duties, import taxes assessed during customs clearance, and routine carrier customs-clearance charges included in our DDP arrangement for eligible orders delivered to Norway.
Customers should not normally be asked to pay these covered import charges when the parcel arrives. Domestic taxes or charges not included in the customs assessment may still apply.
Switzerland
Delivered Duty Paid: Love Smiths currently covers applicable customs duties, import taxes assessed during customs clearance, and routine postal or courier customs-clearance charges included in our DDP arrangement for eligible orders delivered to Switzerland.
Customers should not normally receive a separate customs-payment request for amounts covered by the DDP arrangement. Domestic taxes or charges outside the customs assessment may still apply.
Other International Destinations
For countries not listed as DDP destinations, the recipient is responsible for any customs duties, import VAT or equivalent local taxes, customs-clearance fees, and carrier handling charges imposed by the destination country.
These charges are not included unless the checkout or a country-specific Love Smiths policy clearly states otherwise.
Customs rules vary by destination. Check the website of your local customs authority before ordering if you need an estimate.
Policy Changes
Love Smiths may update, expand, restrict, or withdraw its DDP coverage if customs laws, carrier services, tariff rules, tax obligations, or operating costs change.
The policy in force when your order is placed will be the policy displayed on this page, in any country-specific notice, or at checkout. The DDP coverage described above applies until further notice.
