Our fantasy creations are made using FDA-approved platinum-cured silicone raw material, according to the documentation supplied for the material we use. Why intimate-product materials matter

Intimate products may come into contact with sensitive areas of the body under friction, pressure, warmth and repeated use. These conditions are different from brief contact with ordinary household objects.

A product’s safety cannot be judged only by its softness, appearance or a vague statement such as “body safe”. The complete material system should be considered, including:

Why we use platinum-cured silicone

Love Smiths uses an identifiable platinum-cured silicone raw material supported by supplier documentation. We do not use unidentified “jelly”, “real-feel rubber” or undisclosed soft blends for our silicone creations.

The platinum-cured silicone raw material used by Love Smiths has FDA approval according to the documentation supplied for that material.

This statement refers specifically to the raw silicone material used in our manufacturing process. It means we begin with a documented and approved material rather than an unidentified polymer blend.

3. No dependence on large quantities of mobile plasticisers

Platinum-cured silicone does not require large quantities of loosely bound plasticisers to remain flexible. This is an important difference when compared with flexible PVC and certain very soft thermoplastic formulations.

Plasticisers that are not chemically bound to a polymer may migrate, separate or be extracted over time, depending on the material, storage conditions, lubricants and cleaning methods.

4. A smooth, non-absorbent surface when intact

Properly cured solid silicone does not readily absorb water-based bodily fluids. Its smooth surface can normally be cleaned more predictably than many unidentified soft materials.

No reusable product should be treated as maintenance-free. Tears, cuts, damaged textures or incorrectly cured areas can reduce cleanability, regardless of the original material.

5. Durability and flexibility

High-quality silicone can withstand repeated flexing while remaining comfortable. It can also be produced in different firmness levels without depending on an unknown mixture of oils or softening agents.

Durability still depends on product thickness, geometry, use and care. Every Love Smiths product is therefore inspected for visible defects before shipment.

Non-toxic certified pigments and carefully selected components

The base silicone is only one part of a finished fantasy creation. Pigments, glow effects and any other components introduced during production must also be considered.

Love Smiths uses pigments supported by non-toxic certification. The other components used during our silicone manufacturing process are also supported by relevant non-toxic certificates and supplier safety documentation.

Our material selection therefore does not stop with the silicone. We consider every component introduced into the finished formulation.

A high-quality raw material can still produce an unsuitable finished product if it is incorrectly measured, mixed, cured or finished. Our manufacturing process is therefore an essential part of our safety approach.

Why we prefer silicone over unidentified TPE and TPR

TPE and TPR are umbrella terms covering many different thermoplastic elastomer formulations. They are not one single material, and it would be inaccurate to claim that every TPE or TPR product is toxic.

The principal concern is uncertainty. Many soft consumer products do not disclose the exact polymer family, processing oils, stabilisers, softeners, pigments or other additives used in the finished formulation.

Depending on the formulation, some soft thermoplastic products may:

• Become sticky or oily
• Attract dust and debris
• Swell or change texture
• Transfer material during storage
• Retain odours
• Have limited heat resistance
• Be difficult to disinfect reliably
• Require more frequent replacement

A completely disclosed and appropriately tested technical-grade TPE may be suitable. However, an unidentified “body-safe TPE” provides less material confidence than the traceable platinum-cured silicone system used by Love Smiths.

Why flexible PVC requires greater caution

Rigid PVC must generally be combined with plasticisers to become soft and flexible. These plasticisers are not always chemically bound to the PVC structure.

A “phthalate-free” statement does not automatically explain which alternative plasticisers, stabilisers or other additives have been used. It also does not prove that the complete finished product has been evaluated for repeated intimate contact.

For our flexible fantasy creations, Love Smiths therefore chooses documented platinum-cured silicone instead of flexible PVC.

Is silicone the only potentially safe material?

No. Our research does not claim that silicone is the only material capable of being used safely.

Properly manufactured borosilicate glass and suitable polished stainless steel can also be excellent materials for rigid intimate products. Their benefits and limitations differ from those of flexible silicone.

For flexible fantasy creations, however, traceable and properly cured platinum-cured silicone currently provides the best-supported general balance of:

How to care for your Love Smiths silicone product

• Wash the product before and after use.
• Use warm water and mild, unscented soap unless the product instructions specify otherwise.
• Use a water-based lubricant as the safest general compatibility option.
• Only use boiling, bleach, alcohol, steam or other stronger cleaning methods when expressly approved for the specific product.
• Do not expose electronic or multi-material products to unapproved heat or immersion.
• Do not move a product directly from anal to vaginal use without thorough cleaning and an appropriate new barrier.
